This week, Patagonia opens a shop in the Netherlands for the first time. From now on, outdoor enthusiasts can visit Patagonia #Amsterdam for technical products for all kinds of outdoor sports, including climbing, snow sports and trailrunning. The location on the Singel in Amsterdam serves as a meeting place for local activists and sports communities in addition to being a shop. Patagonia hosts activities and events there such as repair workshops, film screenings and public lectures. Outdoor clothing brand Patagonia was founded in 1973 by Yvon Chouinard in Ventura, California. The brand is 'in business to save our home planet' and is internationally recognised for its commitment to product quality and environmental activism. In 2022, the company changed its ownership structure so that Earth is now the sole shareholder. Besides the new location in Amsterdam, Patagonia has 12 of its own shops in Europe and the brand is available at specialist outdoor shops everywhere. The first Patagonia shop in the Netherlands is located in the premises of the former RoXY nightclub. An iconic Amsterdam venue, it played a central role in the city's house and techno culture in the 1990s and was known for extravagant, multidisciplinary performances. Insight Real Estate advised landlord Achmea Real Estate on leasing the shop to Patagonia.
